MCCANN- Mathematics
This week will be discussing probability. On Wednesday, Students will be taking the math portion of the ThinkLink test. There will be a quiz over probability on Friday.
Computers
This week students will work on typing lesson 12. It will be taken for a grade on Friday. Students will be working on a PowerPoint presentation over combining like terms and the distributive property. Students will have to present the their PowerPoints to the class. Presentations begin Friday.
THOMAS- Hello to all! I hope that everyone enjoyed their long weekend. I know that I sure did. We have a busy 4 day week ahead of us though.
In Science this week we will be contiinuing our lessons on energy. We have learned about kinetic and potential energy, the 3 types of potential energy, and also how energy can be converted. This week we will work on energy conversions some more, as well as different types of energy resources. We will test on Friday. I have already told the students but would like to let you know as well that there will not be a study guide for this test. Much of the test is diagrams and knowing how energy is converted. All information is in Ch. 12 if you would like to help your child go over the information.
In History 1st and 6th period just finished learning about Early African Civilizations. This week we will be working on chapter 14 China. We will be learning about how China changed after the fall of the Han dynasty and its contributions to the modern world. I plan for this test to be next week, more than likely on Wednesday. I will give a general study guide for this test.
7th Period history will be finishing Early African civilizations this week. The test will be on Thursday. Students will have a study guide to help with all the different names and places that were learned about in this chapter. After African civilizations we will begin the study of China as well.
I would like to remind all parents that students should have pencil and paper for every class. It is part of their responsibility to have the materials that they need. Please check with your child to see if they need any supplies. I look forward to a great week.
SIEH- Mrs. Sieh
This Wednesday is our last Discovery Education test before the TCAP which is in April. As you know this is a practice for the TCAP. I will be reviewing on Tuesday the material we have learned and will be covered on this test. I will be taking a grade on the portion of the test that we are familiar with.

We will continue working with numeric patterns.
DEHART- 7TH-CHAPTER 14 REVIEW ON TUESDAY, TEST ON WEDNESDAY AND WORK THE REST OF THE WEEK STUDENTS WILL WORK ON CHAPTER 15- EASTERN EUROPE
8TH-FIRST OF WEEK, FINISH CHAPTER 12 AND TEST ON WEDNESDAY AND WORK ON CHAPTER 13 LAST PART OF THE WEEK.
DUNIVAN- Mrs. Dunivan’s Weekly Blog
Language Arts—We will take the Discovery Education test on Tuesday. We will complete the chapter 14 test on Wednesday, February 22nd. We will continue working with italics, quotation marks, apostrophes, hyphens, parentheses, dashes, and brackets. Explanations of each of each punctuation mark are followed by exercises that give student’s opportunity to practice newly learned skills. Students will have homework at least two nights a week to provide opportunity for extra practice.
Reading—After completing the reading of Where the Red Fern Grows. Students will continue to work on vocabulary and character analysis. Students will work on plot outline to help with their book report project.. Students are reminded to keep up with WTRFG questions. Students will complete figurative language and cause/effect assignments this week. We will continue to work with vocabulary this week. Students will prepare for vocabulary test next week. Students will complete a WTRFG test on Wednesday, February 22nd. Chapter Summaries for 11-20 are due on Thursday, February 23rd.
Students must read two AR books this nine weeks. They are required to read one fiction and one non-fiction. AR deadline will be March 9th.
The book fair is in the library this week. Come by and check out some great books.
OKESKY- Math
1st period 7th grade
On Tuesday we will be reviewing various skills for think link. Wednesday we will be think link testing in math. Thursday and Friday students will be finding volume of cylinders and rectangular and triangular prisms.
2nd and 5th period 8th grade
On Tuesday we will be reviewing various skills for think link. Wednesday we will be think link testing in math. Thursday and Friday we will be solving systems of equations by elimination.
3rd and 4th period
On Tuesday we will be reviewing various skills for think link. Wednesday we will be think link testing in math. Thursday we will begin finding surface area of Prisms and Friday we will find surface area of cylinders.
D.CASEY-
L.CASEY- Eighth – This week we will be wrapping up our Black History Month Projects. The students used a new presentation program called Prezi to create their presentations. The students will be presenting their Prezi’s on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The students have put a lot of time into their Prezi’s. I can not wait to see each one. Thursday and Friday, we will begin a new project that goes along with the novel, Hunger Games, from Mrs. Dana’s class. The students will be creating a commercial or advertisement to promote their favorite tribute.
Seventh – This week I will be reviewing the Prezi presentation program with the students. The students will use the Prezi program to create a book report for the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, for Mrs. Dunivan’s Reading class.
DAVIS- HRS 7th & 8th Grade Middle School Science Blog
February 21-24
7th Grade: This week in 7th grade science, we continue our studies in Earth Science with a discussion of Plate Tectonics. We will quiz on section 1 of chapter 15 on Wednesday of this week. There are numerous vocabulary words in this study. Please encourage your child to study them nightly.
Your student will continue to add information to their ISN notebook. During this study, we will discuss how our Earth consists of 5 physical layers and how the top layer is broken into tectonic plates and moves on the asthenosphere . Your student should be bringing home their science to study and will have several written assignments this week. We will test on all of chapter 15 next week.
8th Grade: This week, we will be concluding our study of the Periodic Table of Elements and the patterns in that table. We will transfer our knowledge of the number of valence electrons in each element to our new topic of study, bonding. We are continuing our notes in our ISN notebook, and your child should be prepared to have them graded soon. We will test on chapter 12, Chemical Bonding, next week. Your student will be having an increase in homework this week! In addition to our new topic of study, we will be reviewing how to solve atomic calculation word problems and density word problems.
